Jack Gao

AKA Ganhe Gao

Jack Gao was born on February 22, 1962 in Beijing, China. He lives in Nagoya, Japan where he distributes films and acts as a production coordinator for Chinese and American productions in Japan. Jack also owns and operates a school in Japan training students in action acting and stunts.

As a martial artist, Jack Gao began studying Wushu Kung Fu as a young child and performed with Jet Li in a two-man fight at the Nixon White House in 1974. While attending Beijing Normal University, Jack won the China National Wushu Competition three times.

After graduating in 1982, Jack Gao was hired by the China Film Co-Production Corporation as an instructor, but his excellent technique was quickly noticed and so he also becasme a stunt performer in Shaolin Temple (1984) and Shaolin Temple 2 (1985).

His quickly went from performing as a stuntman to stunt doubling for Jackie Chan in Police Story (1985) and for Jet Li in Born To Defense (1986), action choreographer with large cast and wire scenes in Born To Defense, a 30 meter cliff fall in Mirage (1988), a car roll stunt in Red Fists (1991) and a long sword fight scene of 10 actors on wires which ended in explosives and fire stunts in Ghost, Demons and Lovers (1992).

Jack Gao is hired as a consulting action director and his recent notable projects include The Last Samurai (2003), Kung Fu Panda (2008), and Ip Man 3 (2015).
