Into the Badlands on AMC Television
August 1, 2015 – Into the Badlands (2015), AMC Studios new martial arts television series, brings authentic martial arts to the small screen on November 19, 2015. The series is based loosely on the Chinese tale Journey to the West. Hong Kong’s Daniel Wu will star as well as executive produce the series and Aramis Knight will play the young lead opposite Daniel Wu.
The television series stars Daniel Wu, Emily Beecham (28 Weeks Later, The Village), Sarah Bolger (The Tudors, In America), and Oliver Stark (The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box, My Hero), with Marton Csokas, Aramis Knight, and Orla Brady. Executive producer and showrunners are Al Gough and Miles Millar. David Dobkin is the executive producer and director of the television series, along with executive producer and fight director Stephen Fung.
The series is about a mighty warrior named Sunny (Daniel Wu) and a young boy M.K. (Aramis Knight) who search for enlightenment in a ruthless territory controlled by feudal barons. M.K. is not a boy but not yet a man, and in his attempt to reach manhood, he will test the patience and fortitude of Sunny daily. But under Sunny’s training, the boy will become a great martial artist and a great man.
According to Daniel Wu, each episode of the series will have at least 5 minutes of fight scenes as the martial arts and the story are both equally important.
I knew the action had to be kick-ass but also knew we really needed a compelling story,” Daniel Wu said.
During the Season 5 finale of “The Walking Dead,” AMC aired this short tease for the Fall 2015 premiere of “Into the Badlands,” starring Daniel Wu.
