Donnie Yen’s Kung Fu Killer Opening

Update: Donnie Yen‘s Kung Fu Killer/Kung Fu Jungle directed by Teddy Chen and co-starring Wang Baoqiang premiered at the London Film Festival (October 8-19) on Sunday October 12 at the Empire Leicester Square. It opened in Hong Kong the weekend of October 30, 2014. It opened in the United Kingdom on February 20, 2015 and opens in the United States on April 14, 2015.

Donnie Yen’s action movie One Person’s Martial Arts Circle (Yat Ku Chan Dik Mou Lam) has so many names including Last of the Best, Kung Fu Killer and Kung Fu Jungle.This will be Donnie Yen’s second movie with Charlie Yeung. Their first film together was Seven Swords in 2005.

Kung Fu Killer is being directed by award-winning filmmaker Teddy Chan who directed Donnie Yen in Bodyguards & Assassins in 2009, the film that won Best Film at the Hong Kong Film Award. Donnie’s co-star will be Wang Baoqiang who also co-starred with him in Iceman Cometh 3D.

Kung Fu Killer began filming on Friday, July 19, 2013. Teddy Chan approached Donnie Yen to star in the film after Donnie withdrew from the lead role in “Ip Man 3” due to an internal dispute between the film’s producer, Raymond Wong and the director, Wilson Yip.

Kung Fu Killer is about a highly respected martial arts instructor named Ha, (Donnie Yen) who works for the Hong Kong Police Academy. When he accidentally kills a man, he is convicted of murder and is put in prison. Not long after he is confined, Fong, a vicious killer (Wang Baoqiang) begins to target and kill the best martial arts instructors in Hong Kong. Ha is able to negotiate a permanent release in return for catching the serial killer. Fong, however, continues to elude even Ha, but when Fong threatens the woman Ha loves, it forces Ha to enter a life-or-death duel with the lethal killer, which is what Fong wanted all along.
